IV. Worldview/Philosophy

Building on the factor of Cultural Tendencies, a mental framework which includes the concept of Worldview begins to take form.  This section re-discovers the three components of a completed Worldview and compares them to the Four Factors of Theory, Habit, Prejudice, and Culture.

Stephen Jay Gould said that there are four factors that influence the individual thinking processes. Those four factors being: Theory, Habit, Prejudice and Culture. The previous section explored the factor of Culture. Now this section will seek to understand the factors of Theory, Habit and Prejudice and how they influence our processes of thinking and viewing the world (Worldview).

1. Viewing the World: Worldview and Theory

Having explored Culture, we now proceed onto Worldview and how Richard
Dawkins uses the term synonymously with the term Theory.

2. Viewing the World: Three World- Concepts

Welt-bild, Welt-anschauung, and Welt-modell, together create a way of understanding the world.  Welt-bild means World-picture, a picture formed in the mind of what the world is like based on our personal experiences;  Welt-anschauung means World-viewing, it is the action of viewing the world through that picture formed in the mind; Welt-modell means World-model, it is a model of the world that we envision to be true,  thus always expecting to see certain results, a Habit.  In this series we will be looking at different Models of Science.

3. Viewing the World: Definition of Two Concepts

So what is Worldview, and how does it relate to other academic disciplines such as Philosophy? This lecture answers that question.

4.  Viewing the World: From Two Different Perspectives.

After realizing that Worldview and Philosophy lay claims to much of the same territory, the question is asked, why do they both exist? It seems they are a Western and Non-Western way of answering the same big questions in life.

5. Viewing the World: Relating Worldview to Philosophy.

Worldview is one of three Welt- sub-concepts, while Philosophy is a general concept that consists of four branches. So the question would be, how do the three Welt- concepts relate to the four branches of Philosophy? In this process we also discover what are our Prejudices.
